Text of the original catalogue

The Zulu people belong to the large Bantu group and are mainly implanted in South Africa, 10.500.000in Lesotho, Malawi and Zimbabwe, and a few in Botswana and Mozambique. Its presence has been known in Africa since the century XIVIts origins seem to be located in the territories occupied by present-day Tanzania. In the century XIX With a powerful army they defend themselves fiercely against the invaders Boers and the British army, which does not prevent them from falling under the colonizing yoke. Currently, those who have not gone to large cities or mines, their traditional work, are engaged in agriculture or handicrafts such as basketry or pearl decorative necklaces. They are mainly Christians, Catholics and different Protestant churches, but that does not prevent them from continuing to worship ancestors as in most Animist peoples and actually practicing religious syncretism. In their traditional religion their creator god is Nkulunkulu and ancestors play an essential role in people's lives. To communicate with ancestors and the spiritual world they rely on the mediation of the traditional sangoma, sorcerer or priest, who through the proper rites comes into contact with the beings of the afterlife. The figure of the herbalist, who prepares the magic potions for such rites, is important. Animism, once again, is inherent in the African soul.
