The small bronze figurines, made by the procedure of lost wax, representing characters carrying agricultural work tools or weapons were considered jewels by their owners and jealously guarded. Numerous dogon figures have appeared in the obituaries of Bandiagará in Mali, among which the image of the thinker frequently appears. Most of these figures were votive votive deposits. The current production is reserved for tourists. Also very elaborate are the figurines baulé.
