Text of the original catalogue
The Hausa They are a desert village, of the Sahel, spread over many countries such as Tchad, Beni, Cameroon, Sudan or Ghana, but it is in northern Nigeria and southern Niger where there is a greater concentration. Traditionally dedicated to pastoralism and agriculture, and also to the slave trade, they have moved away from the desert to develop a commercial activity in the cities, with the sale mainly of their own handicrafts, leather and leather works, iron, textiles and also agricultural products. This ancient people left their animistic practices to embrace Islam from the century on. XIV But in the most remote areas of the big cities, animism continues to be practised. In some areas they practice the Bori cult, which is a syncretism of Muslim and animistic elements. Most practice the five daily prayers and the five basic precepts of Islam, although they also have beliefs opposed to Koranic canons. The Hausa They are as unique a people as their religion.
