Text of the original catalogue

It is a Cameroonian village of the great Bantu group, implanted in the regions of the center and the coast. It seems to come from Nubia and to be spread through forest areas from Senegal, the Bassari, to Cameroon, where it is the oldest town, although on many occasions and places have changed its name. The Bassa Cameroonians comprise three sub-groups: the Babimbi, the Likol and the Bikok. They all come from the same ancestor: Mban. Bassa of Cameroon is the Babimbi. Bassa The family is the center of social organization where children occupy an important place. His religious system is based on Mbog, a natural religion in which things are ordered by word. Sacred power is contained in this culture. Initiation is a fundamental value and one comes to the sacred through the ritual silence of Mbog. The word and silence are two fundamental values of the Bassa. They have several secret societies that correspond to so many other animals, that of panther-men and legislators, leopard-men and executors, water-serpent men and judges, women-caracol, and Spider-men and fortune tellers. Oral tradition is deeply rooted in the Bassa people.
