Full original description

The Yoruba statues of cup bearers are related to divination, serving for a part of a cup of offerings and welcome cup to offer tail nuts to the visitor as a sign of peace. On the other hand they are mediators with the world of spirits who are invited to remain in the cup, like a privileged crucible of the universe, in which ancestors can manifest themselves. Mediation with invisible forces is also exercised on a real level, as the cupbearer is the symbol of the sacred political power transferred to the king. In the divination sessions the fortune teller interprets the position of the tail nuts.

Former statue representative of the Yoruba femininity. This woman with generous breasts presents herself prostrate to her knees, slightly inclined towards the large container, which she holds with both hands, destined to receive the offerings. It carries a curious circular hairstyle smoldered with thick peaks on which is raised another part of the headdress with two thick bows finished in beak hairstyles backwards and a flater central part. The figure appears on a rectangular base carved in the same piece of wood. All of it is covered with a thick dark patina produced by ritual libations. Arms and body are covered with scarifications.
