Full original description

These pieces were used in the territory Akan Until well into the century XX. They are all different, both in shape and in size or weight. All of them are decorated with different motifs on their surface. These motifs constitute a true code of signs, a language known only to the high initiated. Fr. Georges Niangoran Nbouah, q.e.p.d. left us an extensive three-volume treatise on the weights of gold weighing, certainly the first and most in-depth study on the subject.

It's one of the few pieces called Islamic style. They are possibly the oldest weights. Squarely shaped, with a square drawing engraved on the top and bottom surfaces. This drawing has in its angles a small square-shaped relief formed by the bevelled area that is at its sides that leave on each side a larger relief, in its central zone. This weight is pierced in its center by a hole. It is the same drawing and highlights on the top and bottom surface. Its weight is of 72,7 grams.
