Full original description
Statue from the Cameroonian border with Nigeria. The head shows a double heart figure, the usual ethnic figure formed by the eyebrows and the rest of the face and the one formed by the lips. The proportions or, rather, the disproportions between head and body are characteristic of the Mambila. Representation of an ancestor. These statuettes are displayed in family altars or stored in a dark corner of the hut. If they no longer serve for worship and become deacralized, they are buried. They are taken abroad in important events, a good harvest or ritual feasts, during which the blood of the animals sacrificed for the offering is poured on them.
