Enquire about this objectFull original description
Queen's head made by the procedure of lost wax. His hairstyle is adorned by five rows of coral pearls. On top of the temples come two small bumps imitating horns. Two other rows of pearls surround the head from behind without covering the forehead, which presents at each end a rectangular and vertical scarification. The rounded face, straight nose, thick lips and large open eyes, do not show other scarifications. Behind each ear hangs a braided-haired ponytail. Several overlapping necklaces, shaped like rings, surround the neck. At the base, all along its perimeter are raised leopard teeth, real symbol.
These heads are a symbol of the continuity and permanence of royalty. They were meant to honor ancestors in family altars, while beautifying them. At first they were made of wood or clay, difficult to preserve throughout the times. The brass, or African bronze, in addition to enduring through the times, by its shining brightness had the virtue of turning away the forces from evil.
