Anthropomorphic figure standing, with large head, raised headdress of split top and face of prominent features. The arms are flexed in front of the body and are related to an elongated element of transverse decoration. The whole has a brown surface, with clear areas on the reliefs, and is supported on an integrated basis.

The name ‘Prince Bambougou’ comes from the catalogue, which is attributed to the Bambara of Mali. Mali Tourisme places in Bambougou the residence of Prince N’tji Diarra, within the historical surroundings of Ségou. This reference contextualizes the title, but does not show that the sculpture represents that character.

The sheet records stone as material and an indeterminate dating. The material cannot be confirmed with the two images available and must be examined directly. The identity of the character, the workshop and the chronology remain open.
