Full original description

The Mangbetu They had a very hierarchical social structure, and the towns depended on a provincial chief who in turn depended on the king. They developed an elaborate cutting art and manufactured very diverse and refined objects: pipes, anthropomorphic jars, harps and musical instruments. Their figures are characterized by the elongation of the bud.

A pot of clay or terracotta, intended for decoration in the house of the notables, who like to surround themselves be beautiful objects to show their rank and their richness. The heads of the figures represent the typical hairstyles of the Mangbetu women. Three pots, as cariotides, support the central vessel. A small figure of anthropomorphic appearance seems to be drinking, on all fours, in a container. Rugous patina, dark grey, restored piece.
