Full original description
Box of offerings formed by four levels: horses, nomos, container body and lid. The horses are an allegory to the first nomo that I bring down to earth in his ark suspended by a thread of copper and that he had to become a horse when the earth was dry and had to pull out of the ark until the arrival of the rains with the help of another horse. On the horses three nomos hold the container, which carries a decoration of crocodiles and butterflies. The crocodile is one of the mythical animals of the dogon cosmogony but not the butterfly to whose presence we find no explanation. The character on the cover could be the Hogon, religious leader of the DogonBrown patina, very old for its age.
