Mask of the twins or N’Gnambele

Sometimes, in the Kpelié mask, there are two masks gathered together in one, forming a mask with a double face, belonging to the group of “Kufolo” and symbolizing the union of the male and female principles. They are masks that favor fertility and gemelity. Like all protective masks are stored in family altars. The female figure standing at the top can represent Katieleo, the old protective mother of the people, highly revered by the Senufo. The Kufolo also exist in metal, as in this case, usually brass, called African bronze. His dark patina indicates a remarkable antique for a bronze mask.
