Full original description

Mid-century Makondé figure XXbut it is impossible to say whether it corresponds to the time of Tanzania's creation or earlier. It belonged to a Spanish diplomat, already deceased, who was on mission in the newly created Republic of Tanzania, at the end of the sixties of the last century. The style of uniform seems to correspond to the colonial style, although there are many doubts that are threefold, since we do not know if it is a uniform of military or gendarme. It is touched with a black quepi of the same color as the pockets of the jacket and belt.. Contrary to the statue 2896 the collar of the jacket is satin and the pants are white just like the jacket. In the shoulder pads it carries the distinction of its degree, after gallons in the form of "V" inclined that seem to correspond to a sergeant or non-commissioned officer, but it can be a fantasy of the sculptor. The structure is exactly the same as that of the sculpture we have just cited. We thought it appropriate to include this statue in the section of "Real Statues, of Chiefs and Warriors".
