Full original description

Curious motherhood that belonged to the father of Mamadou Marema Diop, a well-known family of Senegalese antiquarians. All figures of women, Africans, with a thick belly and generous breasts are considered maternity mothers, even if they are not accompanied by a child. This figure reminds us of the famous Akwa'Ba dolls, although he actually wears one of these dolls carved on his forehead in memory of the child he wears on his ventre and will soon be born. There are several points that stand out in this small statue, starting with the shape of the eyebrows and eyes, which varies with respect to other figures of this type. The cross of the navel and the highlights of the hips and especially the carving of the figure. The artist has not bothered to remove the traces of this carving left by a narrow and fine azuela (herminette), a regular tool of wood sculptors of other times because they now use more modern tools. White patina that stands out thanks to the carving.
