Full original description

Real realistic helmet head carved in wood with extreme finesse to the point that it looks leather even to the touch. Walls of just two or three millimetres in some sections. Natural hair helps to confer a truly human expression. The Makondés spread throughout Tanzania and Mozambique as well.

This mask appears in the ceremonial dances of the Makondés especially on the occasion of the initiation of the boys and girls. The plural of Lipiko is Mapiko.
