Full original description
Artists in Binin City They were organized into corporations that lived in opposite neighborhoods. The corporation that worked bronze was called Iguneromwo, and the one who worked ivory Igbesamwan. Members of the secret society Igbesamwan have continued to produce magnificent statues, heads, plates, ceremony bells and other figures to this day. These warriors, pagers and messengers represent the guard and staff of the Oba Palace.
Any connoisseur of African art can see that this warrior's bill is very different from those seen in the much more recent sales and antique galleries. This figure belonged to the private collection of the Senegalese antiquarian Mamadou Marema Diop, of the third generation of antiquarians. Very old morphology and patina.
