Full original description
Okukor is the name given to these bronze roosters by Benin's naivos. The purpose of these magnificently chiseled bronze roosters was to adorn the altars of the mother queens. The rooster represents, in the Edo culture, a protective spirit. Some specimens had a hole between their legs, at the base of the base of the socket, destined to receive the offerings.
