Full original description
Fire mask of western Ivory Coast, belonging to the village Dan. These masks were used to monitor the fire in the homes lit by women in order to avoid carelessness that could cause fires. Although torn-eyed masks represent women, they are always worn by men. It is an ancient piece of tribal use, which presents some fissures due to antiquity. The white pigmentation surrounding the eye contour gives a greater intensity to the look. Dark patina.
