Editorial study and sources
Editorial study of the collection · November 1, 2026. The original record is kept in the documentary archive.
Figurative composition of ceramic appearance and reddish colour, arranged on a circular base of raised edge. A tilted profile head, a triangular central volume and several elongated and curved elements that link the different parts are distinguished. There are incisions, small reliefs and a rough surface with color variations.
The only photograph describes the composition, but does not safely solve the anatomy of the representation or its function. Figurative terracotta sculptures documented in the Middle Niger provide a reference for comparison of material and modelling; That general similarity does not allow us to attribute this piece to Djenné.
The name and material of the original registry are illegible, and the combination of aduma culture and Benin needs documentary review. A provisional descriptive name is maintained, without assigning archaeological origin, date or ritual use.
