Full original description
Benin, or former Dahomey, is renowned throughout West Africa for the effectiveness of its sorcerers, sorcerers, healers and fetishes. Many of the inhabitants of neighbouring countries come there in search of a solution to their problems. The Republic of Benin should not be confused with the Nigerian city of Benin.
The strong roots of Christianity in a deeply animistic society gave rise to syncretism known as voodoo, which was exported to America with the first slaves, mainly to the Antilles and Brazil. The voodoo of Benin has a pantheon of 250 divinities. In addition to being the cradle of voodoo, Benin also has the practice of crude and hard fetishism. Few artistic figures are among their ritual objects, but numerous dolls or magical artifacts, quite creepy, whose composition includes a multitude of substances and additions, among which the bones, of animals or humans, are usually an essential part, in addition to pieces of cloth, cauris, beads, nails, rusty pieces of irons, bells or rattles, among other objects, with tied frequencies, forming agglomerated with clay, magical substances and the blood of animals slaughtered in rites.
These objects can only be handled by the sorcerer, sorcerer, or priest officiant and are deliberately unpleasant to the eye so that no profane approach them.
This fetish is intended to favor male sexual potency and man's physical strength. It carries numerous amulets to strengthen the effectiveness of the fetish. Ancient sacrificial patina.
