Full original description
Former votive statue that has been used in family cults. These statues are revered by the Senufo to obtain prosperity, happiness, love, health and all those goods, feelings or favors according to the magical burden attributed to it. This piece comes from a family altar. Vitrified patina. The statue carries ritual scarifications and especially the great ventral scarification represents Koulttyolo. Koultyolo is the supreme divinity of the senufos, she is the old mother of the world, the creative divinity represented in the senufo art as an navel, in the form of a circle and an X. It is usually represented on the forehead of some Keplié mask, in the doors of houses or barns and in the umbilical scarifications of young women, as is the case. It symbolizes the sexuality and fertility of women.
