Belly or ventral masks are used by different ethnic groups to represent motherhood. They are worn by men during ceremonies intended to celebrate fertility, at a time, in most of the populations of women and of the land. These masks show the breasts and belly of a pregnant woman, as the most real symbol of fertility and procreation.
There is nothing better to represent motherhood than a woman's breast and a bulging belly. Materity was the best reflection of African women, since women who were not mothers did not enjoy any prestige in society.
These masks take part in the rites of the passage of adolescents to adulthood and teach them the secrets of the secrets of marriage and prepare them for the domestic life and also for the playful holidays that are celebrated below. It is also used in a playful dance, danced by men, in which the birth is parodyed.
This Jano-like mask, with two heads to see the future and the past, wears the ringed neck, symbol of beauty in the woman. Generous breast and bulging belly indicating that this mask is also used in female fertility rites.Great ventral scarification in the form of leaves. On the neck a small necklace with white and black beads. Dark patina.
