Full original description
Reliquary guard figure from Rio Muni in Equatorial Guinea, former Spanish colony. Solid-looking figure, robust neck and short, strong legs. Three vertical stripes on the forehead as scarifications. Large round eyes formed by metal sheets nailed, simulating the nail the pupil. Large mouth, thick lips, open. A drawing of chained elliptical shapes runs through the body from top to bottom. It is curious and unusual how the hands touch the top of the thighs, with the tip of the fingers. Totally androgynous appearance.
