Full original description
The Drum Baga with female (or male) cariatids belongs to the SIMO society, as does the NIMBA mask.Caryatids drum of the drums called N-DsEF or A-TEKAN belonging to women's associations who originally manufactured them for the male initiation rites, being themselves the ones who handled these drums. If the represented figure is female it will be touched by women, if it is male by men. At present this drum, with different rhythms, is used in all the festivities either in the fun and fun holidays or in the rites of passage from adolescence to adulthood that are celebrated at the end of the initiation. In this case, the woman caryatide or bearer of an important object, in addition to carrying a cup of offerings, confirms the role of the woman as a "pillar or support" of African society, thus highlighting its important social value. Brown patina accusing the course of time.
