Full original description
Genius of nature or Asie usu. The Asie Usu sin the geniuses or spirits of nature who can intervene in the world of humans by granting them their favors or tormenting them. As in the case of the husbands of the other world, the fortune - teller will advise that a wooden image be made as beautiful as possible because some geniuses or spirits of nature are so horrible and countered that in their dealings with men they want to adopt a more convenient appearance and resemble them in all possible ways and that therefore the habitation that incarnates them is as pleasant as possible in the eyes of humans and also to be of the likes of the genius so that feeling satisfied to dwell in it is propitiatory. Thus the sculptor who performs the work will try to make a representation as beautiful as possible. Usually the character of these statuettes is usually seated on a throne and wears a long beard and sometimes an egg in his hand, symbol of the universe, which only affirms the authority of the genius, while extolling his majestic authority. These statues receive offerings and sacrifices from the families and from the possessed, in exchange for their favors and their blessing. As a spiritual family heritage they can be passed down from generation to generation. The statues of forest genius can be male or female and receive the name of Asie Usu interchangeably.
The face of this statue presents a soft expression. Grab his solid, long beard braided with both hands. This type of beard would seem to be a vestige of the passage of the Egyptians through these lands. The three loops of her hairstyle feature as many other heads with the same kind of beard. These heads mean their ability to look in all senses and see what happens, as well as to see the past, the present and the future and to look within people.Ancient piece, receptacle of the geniuses of nature that protect man and that man venerates. It is a very careful sculpture both in the character and in the seat. Body scarifications, earthy brown patina.
