Full original description
It is a figure of ancestor. It is normal in the African statuary of some ethnic groups and especially among the Dogon to present elderly women with beards as a sign of respect. This figure faithfully responds to all the canons of the dogon statuery, like his well-carved nose in the form of an arrow. Very dark crusty patina.
