Full original description
Statue of an ancestor in very dense wood. An elongated figure with a double braid in its beard, which it holds with both hands. The braided beard often seen on male figures is apparently a vestige of the Egyptians’ passage through these lands. Stroking the beard with both hands represents the wisdom of the elders. Numerous scarifications. The figure stands on a base carved from the same block. The bead necklaces adorning the neck and belly were added later.
