Full original description
Mid-century Makondé figure XXbut it is impossible to say whether it corresponds to the time of Tanzania's creation or earlier. It belonged to a Spanish diplomat, already deceased, who was on mission in the newly created Republic of Tanzania, at the end of the sixties of the last century. The style of uniform seems to correspond to the colonial style, although there are many doubts that are threefold, since we do not know if it is a uniform of military or gendarme. It is played with a yellow chepi of the same color as the jacket, with four pockets of red color, as well as the pants. Contrary to his subordinates wearing a satin neck as we see in the statue 2897. In the shoulder pads it bears the distinction of its degree, three stars, which normally correspond to a captain, but it is not about five-pointed stars but eight, which makes us think that thirst is a fantasy of the sculptor, little aware of the military degrees. The structure is exactly the same as that of the sculpture we have just cited. We thought it appropriate to include this statue in the section of "Real Statues, of Chiefs and Warriors".
