Full original description

Stand of command employed in important ceremonies by the notables. Fine sculpture with many details of the wife and husband Asié Usu. In many galleries and books of African art when there are together two Baule figures, male and female, are considered as a couple of Blolo Bian and Blolo Bla, mystical spouses. It is by definition a mistake, for if a mystical spouse is in the other world he cannot exist together with his earthly partner. The male character grabs his beard with both hands and is placed on top of the female character. They both wear a waistband of beads. Nice light patina.
