Full original description

Former cross-bone tube finely chiseled in ivory, topped with the figure of a woman in which her breasts and her belly stand out to reinforce the idea of motherhood. The folded arms and hands one on each side of the belly, in a position of happiness that announces a next birth.

This type of prestige tubes were used by the griots or famous court musicians. They are instruments for the exclusive use of the royal court and divination rites, in this case they appear to have been manufactured on the occasion of a ceremony intended to favor a birth in a court family. The patina is obtained with multiple applications of palm oil and reddish earth.
