Full original description

Slot drum called Mukoku-Ngoombu.Slot drums have been used in large areas of Africa. They are portable drums, small in size, that hang from the musician's shoulder by means of a strap or that are held under the arm. They are struck by a leather-lined wooden hammer or a simple wooden stick. In addition to its use in ceremonies and playful events its use is very frequent in divinatory practices, mainly in divinatory ritual ngoombu weefwa. In these cases, like the current one, the face of the figure represents the diviner or healer who is the intermediary with the world of ancestors. It also serves as a container for making medicines and as a stool for the fortune teller during certain phases of the ceremony. Brown patina.
