Full original description
Ethnic protection fetish Bulu, south of Camerun. Bulu is also a Bantu language spoken by about a million people even though they barely exceed 200,000. Culturally they are connected with the kwelw and gabon fang. Bulu practice Ngi, a ritual to fight sorcery and especially poisons. Ngi is a gorilla who can become fearsome. The initiates of the secret society Ngi identify with him. The gorilla is also a representation of ancestors. In this case the figure shows a humorous attitude, of mockery or of satisfaction.
