Full original description

Family masks are not intended for dance or participation in religious, funeral or playful ceremonies. They serve as mediation between the ancestor whom he represents and the family who owns it. In order to reach the intercession of this ancestor, the family entrusts the sculptor, often on the advice of the diviner, priest or sorcerer, with the elaboration of a mask representing a well-determined ancestor or ancestor. The mask will be made as beautiful as possible but does not necessarily have to resemble the incarnate ancestor. It is not the physical resemblance that is important but the moral virtues of this ancestor that will be assumed by the mask after its consecration. These masks, the center of family devotion, are intended for worship and are normally placed on family altars or hung somewhere visible in the house or hut for permanent protection.

The black and white tnryangles around the face are of Yahuré influence. A large central blucle surrounded by four conical side loops. Elongated face and torn eyes under an overlay of fine ciliary arches. Scarifications live on both sides of an oval mouth and painted in white. Little cracks, very dark patina.
