Full original description
A figure of a woman breastfeeding her child, elongated and lanky, departing from Baule aesthetic canons. The child’s figure is very roughly worked and only loosely defined, something common in African art, which seeks to give all prominence and importance to the woman as a mother; the child is secondary. Two necklaces of pinkish ceramic beads adorn the neck and waist. The statue stands on a base carved from the same piece.
