Knight Portuguese

Magnificent exhibition of the art of foundry mastered to perfection by the artists of Benin. The Edo represented Portuguese knights, in their sculptures until the century XVI, as is the case with this figure, date from which they begin to represent African characters. The horse is also caged to the Portuguese. The gentleman is dressed in the clothes of apparatus, judging by the elaborate dress he wears. He's aiming at his musket with an octave-cannon silex, in a position that looks more like hunting than war. Put a short sword on your left side and a knife-like sprat on your right. Her legs are also adorned with rich clothes. In his right leg he seems to carry a primitive bow gun. The neck of his horse ride is richly decorated. It is curious to see that the knight rides by the hair, possibly due to ignorance of the saddle in the Africa of the time. The headdress and the decoration of the dress are the same as those of a statue of a Portuguese soldier that appears in numerous African art books, for example in that of François Villet, a piece of the century XVI or XVII located in the National Museum of Lagos.
