Full original description

This Kongo floor mask belongs to the category of masks without eyes. It is not intended to be worn, but placed around the monarch’s throne during ceremonies, on the ground along his route or on family altars.

Its eyes are clearly marked in black and white. A fine beard with a goatee follows the edge of the face and extends in narrow sideburns up to the eyes. A plume of feathers rises above the head. A vertical line divides the face into two halves, white and reddish ochre.
